Rizal lived in exile in Dapitan, a remote town in Mindanao, from 1892-1896. His stay in Dapitan was marked by many achievements for Rizal, including in the practice of medicine, the pursuit of scientific studies, artistic and literary works, establishment of a school, and invention of a wooden machine for making bricks, among others.
