Norton Rose Fulbright’s 2018 and fifth edition of Insurance regulation in Asia Pacific – Ten things to know about 20 countries is now available. The guide provides an overview and practical checklist of ten common regulatory issues for insurance companies. SyCipLaw partner Hiyasmin H. Lapitan contributed the Philippine chapter.
The guide provides information on regulations, restrictions on foreign direct investments, notification, regulatory capital regime, and outsourcing. Aside from the Philippines, other jurisdictions covered include Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Information is up to date as of January 1, 2018.
Hiyasmin H. Lapitan specializes in insurance law and has broad experience in investments, in, and regulation of, this sector. She has worked on the acquisition of shares in a Philippine licensed life insurance company, a non-life insurance company, and an insurance broker; and the registration and licensing of a non-life insurer and of several insurance agencies. She acts as the resident agent for a number of non-resident foreign reinsurers and reinsurance brokers.
