SyCipLaw Partner is Panelist at NCCA Gender Awareness Conference
August 10, 2022
SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (SyCipLaw) Partner Arlene M. Maneja is one of the panelists in the upcoming "Kabaro: A Gender Awareness and Sensitivity Training Summit", spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts - Philippine Cultural Education Program to be held virtually on August 11 and 12, from 9am to 5pm.
Ms. Maneja joins a panel discussion on "Confronting the Issues of Gender Discrimination, Bullying and Gender Inequality in the Philippine Academy" on Friday, August 12, at 10:40am, along with members of the academe: Leonardo from the Department of Education Zamboanga, Jhoanna Lynn Cruz of University of the Philippines Mindanao, and Rheeno Tilde Cabangcalan, a freelance language teacher.
The Filipino term used in the title, "kabaro", literally means someone of the same dress, thus of the same kind, which is often euphemistically used to refer to an LGBTQ+.
The summit tackles issues on gender equity and equality, intersectional oppressions, gender stereotypes, roles and identities, equal opportunities and safe spaces, among others. According to organizers, "'Kabaro' hopes to come up with meaningful solutions to threats and violence and adapt culture-based gender and sexuality framework, pedagogy and learning resources that are ethically produced by BLGBTQIA+ community and allies."
Attendance to the sessions is free. Interested participants may pre-register via this link.
