Lawyers for Social Impact Project

With social responsibility and sustainability as cornerstones of its 75th anniversary celebration, SyCipLaw embarked on a project with Innovation for Social Impact Partnership (ISIP) to provide pro bono legal services to social enterprises that offer innovative solutions to pressing societal challenges in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Known as the “Lawyers for Social Impact Project”, the project entailed the formation of teams of volunteer lawyers to conduct legal seminars and render legal advice to social enterprises belonging to ISIP’s social impact accelerator program. Since January of this year, five teams of SyCipLaw lawyers have been assisting five social enterprises on matters ranging from employment & immigration to intellectual property, incorporation and contract negotiations. In March, prior to the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine, the firm conducted a legal seminar with sessions on investments, corporate housekeeping, employment and the Innovative StartUp Act.

SyCipLaw previously advised the consortium constituting LRMC in relation to its bid for the concession over LRT-1 and advised LRMC in relation to the project financing for the extension to Cavite.

ISIP provides targeted assistance to social enterprises to help them become scalable and sustainable ventures that create positive social change. It is being implemented by the Philippine S&T Development Foundation – Manila, Inc. (PhilDev) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT–Australia).
