November 20, 2018
SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan co-sponsored the 7th Philippines Investment Forum held on October 19, 2018 at the Fairmont Makati. Organized by Euromoney Conferences, the forum served as a venue to review the current economic agenda and to discuss the latest investment landscape in the country. It consisted of panel discussions and presentations on a wide range of topics, such as the economic outlook for the Philippines and the ASEAN region, and opportunities in the capital markets, digital financing and infrastructure sectors. Hon. Benjamin E. Diokno, the Philippine Secretary of Budget and Management, and Ms. Chuchi G. Fonacier, Deputy Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, gave the keynote address.
During the forum, Mr. Jose Florante M. Pamfilo, a partner and a member of the firm’s Banking, Finance & Securities and Special Projects Departments, delivered a presentation on the Personal Property Security Act (Republic Act No. 11057) and its impact on secured financing. The Personal Property Security Act overhauled the Philippine legal framework for secured transactions involving personal property, replacing laws that have been in place since the early part of the 20th century.
Mr. Rocky L. Reyes, a senior partner and head of the firm’s Special Projects Department, participated in a panel discussion on infrastructure funding. The panel discussed the challenges and opportunities in the domestic infrastructure markets, including power, transport and highways. Panel members included, among others, representatives from the Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines and the private sector consortium that is spearheading the proposal to rehabilitate, expand, operate, and maintain the country’s main airport, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Euromoney Conferences reported that 542 business leaders, investors, government officials and industry experts from 12 countries attended the forum.
