Leo Francis F. Abot is an associate at SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (SyCipLaw) and is a member of the firm's Special Projects, Banking, Finance & Securities, Corporate Services, and Intellectual Property departments, as well as the firm's Technology, Media, and Telecommunications law (TMT) practice group.

Mr. Abot has broad experience in commercial and intellectual property law. His practice covers general corporate law and corporate governance, investments, regulatory compliance and licensing, technology, media, and telecommunications law (TMT), data privacy, financial technology (FinTech), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), banking and financing, and intellectual property (IP).

As a member of the firm's corporate and intellectual property groups, Mr. Abot regularly:

  • advises clients in various industries such as telecommunications, manufacturing, food and drug, real estate, business process outsourcing, logistics, energy, and banking and financial services;
  • assists in legal due diligence exercises and documentation for commercial transactions such as mergers and acquisitions and financing matters;
  • handles various intellectual property matters such as trademark prosecution, inter partes cases (e.g., trademark opposition proceedings), and review of franchise agreements and technology transfer arrangements; and
  • performs corporate housekeeping functions, serving as Assistant Corporate Secretary of several Philippine companies.

Mr. Abot also assists in safeguard measures proceedings before the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry and Tariff Commission where the firm represents various foreign exporters.
